Finally, I tasted my first nip of creative satisfaction at work. Honestly speaking, I wasn’t liking what I was doing. People concerned did like it though. So I continued with the crap, my line of frustration rising by the day. Today when I was given the brief to write the main jingle for the next S_____, I took it as yet another of those, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V from one of the Rabi thakur sites and then change the words to fit the bill.
Was staring blankly into the screen, trying to figure out which song to rape this time round, when, I don’t know why, where and how, it just struck me, that I should give baul a try. I really like baul, but like all other song forms and types, understand nothing of it. As a matter of fact, before XIC happened, I did not even understand the difference between High and Low... forget the mids. Today, when I decided to draft the lyrics for my proposed baul song, all I knew was it had to be funny as per company rules, and for me, for once, I wanted it to be original. But for someone who simply liked baul like any other listener would, it was difficult to write a baul song.
I needed a starting point. Sujon majhi re… was the obvious choice… heard the entire thing once, with out paying any attention to the lyrics. I just wanted to get the feel of baul. Finally I started scribbling. I had however informed my seniors that it would be baul, so they started calling people up to get a baul singer, for we had to do finish the production today. Finally, the lyric was ready… and so was the baul singer.
The rest that happened in the sound studio, from composing the tune to changing a few words here and there to match the tune, and finally recording it, is something I can never express in words, and I guess that makes it special. While in college I had heard, perfect happiness cannot be replicated in words. I don’t care if the song is good or not; all I know is today I will sleep a peaceful sleep, and that’s what matters to me.
Can’t wait to listen to the mixed track
